“Triangles are my favorite shape
Three points where two lines meet
Toe to toe, back to back, let’s go, my love; it’s very late
‘Til morning comes, let’s tessellate”
-Tessellate lyrics by Alt-J
tessellate
I first saw an Issey Miyake bag at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York last September. I had forgotten I wanted to write an article on it until I went to the line’s website to research the SS2015 collection. The SS2015 collection is a fun one – heavily inspired by the deepest blues of the ocean and it’s deep ocean inhabitants.
I’ve featured a number of articles about Geometry and how it plays a pivotal role in fashion and fashion design. I’ve also mentioned 3D printing and it’s influence on the fashion industry. This time, Miyake’s designs are not 3D printed but rather just 3D. They conform, they move, they are 3D shapes within shapes connected together.
