When we find a designer here at DNA Stylix, we tend to do a formidable amount of research on the designer. We refuse to just put pictures on the website and call it a day. We want you to know the essence of what the designer was trying to capture. We want to literally “decode” the designer. That’s why we’ve started these series of articles called, “Designer Decoded”. It could mean that we see influence the designers themselves didn’t see, or we could be reiterating what the designers say was the influence. Either way, we hope that you enjoy the extra effort that we try to bring to our readers.

CRES. E DIM.
This Korean line is created by Kim Hongbum, participant to PROJECT RUNWAY Korea in 2008, and winner of the DOOTA DESIGNER VENTURE contest. The heartbeat of this collection and others as envisioned by Hongbum is technology, architecture, and nature. It may be subtle in some designs, but it resonates throughout the entire line CRES. E DIM.
We chose to show you Hongbum’s FW2013 collection titled “Second Nature.” Hongbum states that the collection was influenced by exhibition instillation designer Tokujin Yoshioka. Please take a moment to see this artist’s works. His Crystallize instillation is beautiful and dramatic despite its simple appearance. His website has a video of the team building the instillation.
See Yoshioka’s work HERE.
Hongbum utilized different textures and computer based prints to design his FW2013 collection.

What’s in a name?
(via cresedim.com)
CRES. E DIM. IS THE MUSICAL TERM ‘CRESCENDO E DIMINUENDO’, ‘CRES’ MEANS ‘GETTING GRADUALLY LOUDER’, AND ‘DIM’ REFLECTIVELY MEANS ‘GETTING GRADUALLY SOFTER’.
THUS, HONG BUM KIM APPLIED THIS THEORY INTO HIS FASHION IDENTITY AND PHILOSOPHY.
THE DESIGNER COMES UP WITH NEW SILHOUETTES BY EXPERIMENTING WITH DIFFERENT FABRICS OVERLAPPING THE BODY.
THE SHAPE IS CUT INTO FRAGMENTS TO ADD RHYTHM, AND THE COLORS GIVE VITALITY TO THE FINAL OUTCOME.
FINALLY, A MODERN STYLE PROJECTING CONTEMPORARY VALUE IS COMPLETED.
