MBFW Coverage- Emerson SS2014

Designers are often influenced by things in nature. It is a premise we focus on frequently.  This time, we focus on a lovely collection we were honored to see first-hand in New York September 8th at Lincoln Center.

Emerson by Jackie Fraser-Swan

“Punk Rock Garden Party”

The Spring 2014 collection features three custom designed prints: Garden Gate, Allium Flower Field and Painted Hounds Tooth.

The Allium Flower – which is called Allium Ambassador or known by it’s nickname, “the purple pom pom.” The flower was incorporated into the collection via the nail art, prints (sometimes flipped upside-down) , and headdresses.  This is what it normally looks like in a garden.

Another element that intrigued us was Fraser-Swan’s use of leather. Not only did she have the leather laser-cut (which is a technique we plan to feature in future posts), but she cut it in the shape of ivy. The collection featured a variety of silhouettes.

Fraser-Swan included black and white ‘painted’ stripes that we really enjoyed.  It was obvious her love of Tim Burton. The tailoring was flattering and the stripes did not distract despite the dramatic print. She kept a “punky” edge with the ribbed leather sleeves.

The “Garden Party” continued with floral prints.

  Party on, ladies!

A special thank you to Emily at People’s Revolution.

PS. A little tidbit about Jackie – the name EMERSON comes from her ancestor Ralph Waldo Emerson who was a lecturer, poet, and a key member of the transcendentalism movement. He was also an advocate for society reconnecting with nature and paying attention to its beauty.
